Head Coach Matt Macedo
Macedo started his coaching career in 2004, joining North Coast Aquatics in San Diego as senior assistant and senior development coach at the La Jolla J.C.C. In addition, Macedo was hired in 2005 to co-coach the Carlsbad age group program. In 2007, he joined The Race Club in Florida as head assistant coach under Olympic Coach Mike Bottom, with duties that included coaching the World team, which is composed of numerous past and current Olympians. Some of these Olympians include:
- Gary Hall Jr. -(USA) 10 time Olympic Medalist (5 Gold / 3 Silver / 2 Bronze) Former American Record Holder - 50 M FR
- Nathan Adrian (USA) - 2008 Olympic Games Gold Medalist and former World Record Holder in the 400M FR Relay. Current World Record Holder 400 FR Relay SCM. 2 time '08 World Champion 100 FR and 400 FR Relay SCM
- Milorad (Mike) Cavic (Serbia) - 2008 Olympic Silver Medalist (Behind Michael Phelps) 100 M Fly. Former Olympic Record Holder 100 M Fly. 3 time Olympian for Serbia. 2008 Olympic Games Semi-Finalist 100 M Free.
Shortly before starting his first year as an Assistant Coach for UC San Diego Swimming, Macedo was at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where he was the Head Coach of the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Team. Macedo is now using his experience with the Olympic team to help UCSD become a DII championship team.
Macedo is from San Jose and had an accomplished swimming career in Pacific swimming. Macedo went on to Cal Berkeley where he was a 20-time All-American and graduated with a degree in Public Policy/Public Health. He was a two time DI NCAA champion while at Cal and member of the U.S.A. National Swimming Team. Matt represented the United States at the 2001 World University Games and was an Olympic Trials finalist in the 50 free at the 2000 US Olympic Trials.
